How service-of-process tracking works
When you order through ServeNYC, your job status updates as it moves through our workflow. Submitted means we have your documents and payment. Assigned means a licensed process server has your papers and the defendant's address. Attempting means the server is making GPS-verified attempts at the service address. The service outcome shows Served when a recipient has been served, or Not Served when service could not be completed after diligent attempts; each recipient on your job gets its own outcome and its own affidavit. Court Filing appears when you purchased e-filing and covers the filing of the affidavit with the court. Completed means the affidavit has been delivered to you (and filed, if you requested filing).
You do not have to keep checking this page. We send email notifications at each step, from the moment we receive your job to the day the affidavit is delivered, so you always know where your service stands without logging in.
Tracking service you arranged elsewhere
If you hired a server directly or are handling service yourself, there is usually no public tracker. Most individual process servers do not offer online status lookup. The most reliable option is to contact your server directly and reference the date you handed off the papers.
Turnaround varies by county, address, and how evasive the defendant is - routine service is typically 1 to 7 days once a server is assigned, with rush and same-day options available. You can review the current expectations on our processing times page.
