A Service Address Is Required

To serve a defendant, we need a physical address in New York where the defendant can be found - a home, business, or place of employment. A PO box alone cannot be served.

If you don't have a current address, add our skip-trace / locate service and we'll work to find one before attempts begin. Out-of-state and nationwide service is also available on request.

Personal vs. Substituted Service

Personal Service

The papers are delivered directly, in-hand, to the defendant (CPLR 308(1)). The most straightforward and preferred method when the defendant can be located.

Substituted / Nail-and-Mail

When the defendant cannot be personally served after diligent attempts, NY law allows leave-and-mail (CPLR 308(2)) or affix-and-mail / "nail-and-mail" (CPLR 308(4)). We follow the statutory steps and document them in the affidavit.

Document Upload Standards

  • Upload the exact papers to be served (summons & complaint, subpoena, notice, etc.)
  • All pages included, in the order they should be served
  • Clear, legible scans or PDFs - no cropping of captions or index numbers
  • Include any exhibits or attachments that must be served with the papers

We will contact you if anything is missing or unclear before a server is assigned.

Affidavit Delivery

Every completed job includes a notarized affidavit of service. Choose how you'd like to receive it - and whether we file it with the court for you.
